Help Support Scott Parks – “Scott’s Lifesavers”

Judy Hazen and Scott Parks

Dear KW Region,

Scott Parks, Agent of the Brentwood Market Center, is a 29 year old adult with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetically life-shortening disease affecting only 30,000 children and young adults in the US and the median life expectancy is only 37 years old. Because profit incentives are small, pharmaceutical companies contribute very little to funding CF research. Therefore it’s up to us. I ask for your help in finding a cure and new treatments so that everyone with CF WILL live longer.

Please Read How Scott Lives Daily with CF

CF affects my lungs and digestive system by causing thick sticky mucus to fill my air passages and digestive organs. Due to this thick mucus, I am unable to digest my food and absorb nutrients. This mucus blocks the passageways in my lungs and harbors bacteria bringing about dangerous life threatening pneumonia and progressive lung damage. Thus, my lung capacity and function continues to worsen as I get older causing a difficulty breathing, among other symptoms. The nature of this disease and its symptoms force me to focus intensely on my health and keep a strict regiment so I can remain as healthy as possible. I spend about 2.5 hours a day doing breathing treatments, therapy sessions and taking medications to help clear the mucus in my lungs. I take over 35 pills daily, and I spend an average of 3-4 weeks multiple times a year either in the hospital or at home on intensive IV antibiotics.  One day I woke up with breathing problems and had to rush to Stanford to deal with a sudden case of pneumonia. Every decision I  make and every minute I spend taking care of my body will affect my longevity of my life. Taking strict care of my body is my only option.

A Note From Scott

I live my life every day with a positive attitude, thankful each day I’ve had, and I will continue to fight this disease as long as I live. I know it’s by God’s strength and protection I am still here today. Please consider donating to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to my Great Stride Pleasanton team, and help us to find a cure or new treatments. Though this is only a brief picture of what life with CF is like, I sincerely thank You for your help. I pray that someday I and many others will get the chance to breathe a full and complete deep breath. Thanks to the support of many, this day may not be too far away. I LIVE A WONDERFUL LIFE AND HAPPEN TO HAVE CF…CF DOES NOT HAVE ME!
